Oh the madness of black friday I will never understand you? I just finished watching a special on the news about this years Black Friday disasters. I would like to give mankind the benefit of the doubt on maybe the camera just caught an off moment, but really people tackling another person to get in the door the first at Walmart at 12am? I mean a part of me understands the thrill of the hunt, waiting in line with the other eager deal shoppers, checking out the competition (who's faster, stronger, etc), developing your plan on how to get in line and snag your deal all in a days work. The poor glazed over look of the retail workers that had a fear for their lives. No one will ever forget the Walmart door greeter masacare of 2008? I went to Target on Sunday and asked the cashier how Friday was and she gave me a look of PTSD like I had just commented on a WW2 battle before she said "they were crazy" and told me about the knock down drag out in the electronics section. I think the Brit's got it right when they named their Black Friday "Boxing Day". :)
A part of me is a little envious that I just don't have it in me to stand in a mob for hours and duke it out for a deal that was to good to pass up. Maybe I am just getting old (that can't be it), or maybe it gives me hope that the economy may be turning around, or maybe it gives us all a clear picture as to what the holiday's should not be about. Although the 10 commandments left out "Thou Shall Not Trample They Neighbor" It still surprises me the lengths people will go to these days. So as I write this I will log on to a few of my favorite websites to check out "Cyber Monday" from the comfort of my own home just so I know what I am missing out on.
