Retirement

April 23rd, 2010...... the day of retirement................... the day every new mother dreams of.............. the day you can retire the infant car seat for the "big kid" model. After nearly 8 months, well more like 7 because I don't think I left the house the first month after Isla was born, I am now able to retire the infant carrier. It was a bitter sweet day. Last summer Joey spent hours putting the base of the infant carrier in the car and fitting everything just right and today the out came the infant carrier and in went the new convertible seat. What started out as a cute tiny baby in a small carrier was most recently a huge 20lb amount of bulk that was causing serious back pain. The end of a the infant seat era may not seem like much, but to a new mom it is the beginning of highchairs at restaurants, sitting up right in shopping carts, and now only having to juggle baby, diaper bag, and groceries to get in and out of the store. Isla was ready for the move when we put her in the new seat she smiled and gave me a look like mom I am going to be ok. I am sure this won't be the last time I see this look as she is growing up, but still none the less hard seeing your baby grow up so fast. It is funny with baby items something that you would do anything for months early is now collecting dust in the basement. So down goes the infant seat along with the bounce seat, bassinet, and all the other items that provided me sanity when I needed it.
