When I was your age

This last weekend one of the girls that live two houses down from us came over to ask if our internet was out to. I told her it had been hit and miss all day, but it was out now. I joked with her and said don't worry when I was your age we didn't have internet and I survived. You would have thought I had told the child I had gone without food and water for a week with the look she gave me. She said thanks and went back home. I realized as I closed the door that I was now the "old" one telling the girl 20 years younger than me the story of me hiking uphill both ways in the the snow on my way to school. Ok so maybe not that drastic, but still it is amazing how fast times have changed and how "kids" these days can't even imagine how "hard" things were for us oldies. We actually had to leave the house without a cell phone or any lifeline to our friends? If we wanted to send someone a message we had to write it out (in Ink), put a 25 cent stamp on it, and walk it across the street where it would then arrive in 2-5 days. If you were in a relationship, engaged, or married you had to actually tell people instead of updating your facebook status. If you asked someone if they wanted to play a computer game they were talking about Oregon Trail or Where in the World is Carmen San Diego. You had to go to the arcade to play any video game other than Mario Brothers. If you lived with sisters you knew the value of being the first one home so you could talk to your friends on your cordless phone and not have to beg mom to get them off the phone in fear your friends were receiving a busy signal on the other end. If you wanted to find out when your tv show was coming on you had to pull out the tv guide and look up programs instead of clicking a button on direct tv to get the full details on the episode and record it on your DVR. If you were going to miss a show you had to have the VHS programed and ready to go. If you wanted to listen to your favorite music you had to either buy a tape or wait all day to hit record on your boom box. So see kids when I was your age......... So now all of you "oldies" like me are probably laughing and all of the young ones are going how ever did you survive. :)

  1. Haha. We are almost the EXACT same age! I love it! So many things I never thought about. I remember staying up to 120 minutes on MTV to press record on a video I wanted on a VHS at 2am. lol
