Yet Another Step Into Parenthood
With Isla I feel like everyday there is a new adventure that makes me that much more of a mom. Even now that she is over a year old there is still something that happens on a daily basis that makes me go ok I am "now" officially a mom. I think it is funny how mom's operate because it seems like everyone is always so competitive and somehow there is mom rank on what you have endured over the course of their motherhood. I have to laugh when you are talking to someone and before you know it you can practically hear "I raise your one child, and see you two kids under two, and another on the way" as if the more traumatic people make things sound the more of a mom you are, but in fact it really doesn't matter at all. Everyone has easy days, hard days, and days that make them question their own sanity. I have experienced 9 months of enduring Shrek feet, labor, sleepless nights, getting thrown up on, watching her crawl for the first time, first smiles, all things that made me really feel like a mom but today a three year old made motherhood all that more real for me. Usually Isla is the first one dropped off in the morning, but today Isla's little friend Lucas who is three came running up to me with his picture he drew and goes "Isla's Mom!" look! Then the other boy who is at the daycare said "Isla's mom is here" when I knocked on the door. I guess I have known for awhile that life has changed this year, but I guess today made it that much more official. Someone told me years ago when I first got married that in order to be happy in a relationship make sure you never lose sight of yourself. Today made me realize that no matter what else I become in my life I am now and always will be "Isla's Mom" and that is better than any thing else I will ever be. :)
