The bridge from where we are and where we want to go

It always amazes me how I look back on seven years of higher education and reflect on all of the information I learned while in the classroom, and how some of the most valuable lessons I learned were things that at the time seemed like just a stop in the road for me. Today at work I had a parent that was very upset. I don't think he was really upset at me as much as the criminal justice system in general. As the parent started to escalate more and more one would think that I would revert back to my seven years of higher education, but somehow I never was offered a class in "Parents Cuss You Out 101". Education teaches you the background you need to succeed and life's experience teaches you what you need to survive in the working world. In the middle of the dad's rant I all of a sudden reverted back to not an explanation of legal verbage on what technically was going on with the case, but I reverted back to the many countless hours I spent in the drive up at U-Lane O credit union. I was infamous for always getting the member that was upset about something and I took my share of abuse for overdrawn accounts, and delinquent loans, but I would always smile and stay calm acting under the assumption that what goes up must come down. I believe that people will act on impulse and it is only a matter of time before they have a reality check and realize what they are doing. Today after the dad's rant, he eventually ended up saying how sorry he was and then went into a long explanation of everything going on in his life. Otherwise known as the calm after the storm. So again, I listened to him using not my many years of school training.......why because I was again never offered "Fix Everything in My Life and do it now 202". I reverted back to my days as a bartender in England. The many hours I spent pouring drinks and hearing about broken hearts, new found loves, and more details about peoples lives than I would ever be willing to repeat.

In today's economy it is not uncommon to find people with years of work experience working entry level jobs or college educated people struggling to find work at barely minimum wage. The job market is tough and now people are having to work ten time harder to even land an interview let alone a job. For many job seekers it is hard not to get down on themselves and get stuck into a rut of self doubt and frustration. From what I have learned over my assorted job history, is no matter if you are working your dream job or just a job to bridge where you have been and where you are going you have the ability to take away skills that will help you once you get to where you want to be.

I think labor day made me really want to write about the top of work. In the past labor day was always a day that people celebrated being off from work and getting that last chance at a three days weekend before the end of summer. This year it seemed like labor day to me reflected on all of the many people who were out of work and those that who are currently under employed. It really makes you appreciate every job that people are able to have these days no matter how far from where you want to be it is. I think it is important to remember that no matter what job you have you can bring something out of it in the long run.

So this is me giving thanks for the jobs people do have and hope for all of those looking for workout there.
