Today was the big day! Isla is officially one. Looking back at one year ago today I can't believe how fast this year has gone. I use to think that old saying was only a cliche' my grandma had a tendency to over use, but I can now honestly say it is completely true. Most people will say there are a few events in their life where they can tell you right where they were at a moment in time and never forget. On September 2nd, I will always remember being at St. Francis hospital in Colorado Springs holding Isla for the first time being in total amazement of her beautiful new life.
I have often laughed about the moment you announce you are pregnant you will be a moving target for parenting advice for the rest of your life. Of all the things people told me the words that ring most true to me today is, "the day's will go by slow, but the years will go fast." Tonight as I was rocking Isla before bedtime I couldn't help, but hear those words in my head. This year has been full of smiles, laughs, and tears, but even during the longest days I can't believe now how fast this year went by. All those days where it was so crazy I couldn't help but laugh. When I put the cute little thing down in her crib then hear laughing only to find that she had taken her diaper off and chucked it out of the crib, or the day I heard giggling in the bathroom and she had unrolled an entire charmin double roll :) Isla is becoming so independent these days I can't even believe how much she is changing every day. Just today alone she realized that she can master climbing the stairs. In the morning even at 6am I love hearing her say momma and dada and then pull up to turn on her music machine in her crib while I hear woodland crickets as I know I only have a few more minutes before I need to get up.
We had a low key fun first birthday and went to the Colorado State Fair. We saw goats, sheep, cows, ducks, and had a close encounter with a turkey. We even watched a lumber jack show. We came home and Isla had a piece of yummy cake (which she shared with Leo and Delilah). Well here are a few pictures of the cake smash. We are having her "official" party when my family arrives in two weeks.
Thank you again for all of Isla's sweet birthday messages. I am sure she is one the most popular kids on facebook right now :)

Happy birthday, Isla! I hope your day was a great one. :-)
