The last few days have been such a tease. We are having wonderful summer weather here, but I know that fall is right around the corner. I will miss the days of walking to the park with Joey and Isla, wearing shorts & tank tops, playing out in the sun with Leo and Dee, and enjoying the pool. I guess fall is a nice transition between the sunshine of summer and the long Colorado winters. Fall has so many fun things to look forward to this year as well.
First, we have football season. For me I am not a fan of football. I am pretty sure I am the only person who managed to live in the city of Eugene and escape without Duck Fever. Although I really am not interested in football I love Joey's excitement during the game and the look on his face when Isla wears her duck day game gear. Over the last few times I have been back to Eugene it is sad to see a town that at one time was thriving with life see so many people now out of work. Watching the news when I am home makes me sad listening to unemployment rates, crime that often references past students of my old high school, and a general downturn in the economy. I love Duck season because although people may have their lives totally out of control it gives them hope and something to set aside all of their worries even if it is just for the game. I love when Game Day is on TV because the focus isn't on about everything horrible in the world it is on a group of fans that checked their worries and trouble at the gate and now only care about the next 60 minutes.
Next, we have Halloween. Now at this age for Isla, halloween is still more about the parents enjoyment then the kids really getting anything out of it, but I still can't wait. This year Ms. Isla is going to be a lady bug. No huge plans of trick or treating just going next door to our neighbors, then handing out candy at our house. Leo and Dee will be dressed to the 9's for sure and we won't even border on the line of animal abuse (although Dee may tell you otherwise). Dee will usually rip her costume off and Leo will wear his around proudly as long as he has a snack in his future.
Then of course election day. I vote for many reasons, but most importantly if you don't vote you don't have the right to complain when you don't agree with how things are going. ;) I never really talk about anything political with family or friends, but I guess on here if you disagree with me you can pronounce me deleted and blocked by the power invested in you in the state of facebook or blogger ;) I am ready to see the system change and for the better and I don't think any one person can change things on their own, but I am thankful there are people willing try. It drives me crazy to know hard working people who struggle daily to make ends meet, but are still unable to afford health insurance or some of their basic needs, while I meet other people fully supported on welfare that are able to afford drugs, alcohol, and cigarettes on the governments dime. I guess that rant is a story for another blog and another day.
So this fall we have football, halloween, voting season, and of course another long winter right around the corner.
